Dr. Emily Shakespeare, Research Lead of the SABRE Research Centre at South East Technological University (SETU), recently met with colleagues from the UPCA Research Program at the University of the Philippines, College of Architecture to explore opportunities for future collaboration and strategic alignment.
The meeting brought together Dr Shakespeare with Research Programme Director Dr. Cathe Nadal and Research Associates Cindy Pornelos and Tricia Grafil. Discussions focused on strategic research positioning within an evolving global context, with particular emphasis on how architectural and landscape-based research can respond to shared challenges such as climate change, urbanisation, and the integration of emerging digital methodologies.
The exchange highlighted strong overlaps in research interests, including the role of digital tools in spatial analysis, transdisciplinary approaches to landscape and built environment research, and the importance of locally grounded yet globally relevant methodologies.
The meeting marks an important step in establishing connections between SETU and the University of the Philippines, with both institutions expressing a shared interest in developing collaborative research initiatives, knowledge exchange activities, and potential joint projects in the near future.
